This fall, the middle school flag football team is on a quest to win
the division championship. The first game was fairly close, but the
Cavaliers won it 18-16 against St. Michael’s. The most valuable player
of the game was eighth grade student Jacob Iritani, who scored all the
touchdowns for the team.
Game number two, against St. Robert, was a blowout, with the
Cavaliers winning the game 24-6. Jacob Iritani scored all the touchdowns
for the team again. Seventh grade student Bradford Petchauer got an
interception in the second half.
With the Cavaliers at 2-0 for the season, the next game was against
St. Patrick. The St. Patrick game was no competition; the Cavaliers won
it 28-0. The first to score was Jacob Iritani with two touchdowns. Then
eighth grade student Dominic Stephen scored on a pass, then seventh
grade student Chase Browning ran the ball for a touchdown. During the
game Dominic Stephen got an interception at least from the 30 yard-line.
The next game they played was against Holy Spirit. This was the
first game that the Cavaliers lost. They lost 22-24. Chase Browning got
an interception during the game, and Dominic Stephen had two touchdowns
that were passed by Jacob Iritani. They didn’t score any conversions but
got a safety. That put the Cavaliers at 3-1 for the season.
The last game that the Cavaliers played was against Woodland
Christian. The Cavaliers won the game 14-8, the first to score was
eighth grade student Jacob Iritani who ran the ball for a touchdown.
Then Dominic Stephen scored off of a pass from Jacob Iritani. Also,
Bradford Petchauer and Jacob Iritani both got an interception during the
game.
Dominic Stephen said that he likes the practices. “I enjoy playing
football, and I like to hang out with my friends,” he said. He also said
that quarterback Jacob Iritani is his favorite player. “I like Jacob
because he is a great player and fun to hang out with.”
Jacob Iritani said that he has played football for five years: three
years of flag and two years of tackle. He also said, “I wanted to play
football because when I saw my brother play a game at the school, I
wanted to try football.”
Eighth grade student Jason Thomas said that his favorite football
player is Brett Favre. He also said, “I think I’m doing well but need to
improve on the option play. We will do good for playoffs but lose a
game on the way.”
Bradford Petchauer said that his favorite football player is Drew
Brees because he is better player then Brett Favre. He also said, “I
like football because it gives me something to do after school.”
Sixth grade student Cameron Hawk said that his favorite player is
Jacob Iritani because he is a good, hard-working player. He also said,
“I like football because my friends at my old school played football,
and I liked to play it too.”
