Alta girls lacrosse team had an amazing victorious run over Riverton on Saturday. The team won, 18 to 3, to complete an undefeated season. The Lady Hawks have outscored their opponents, 288-49, to accomplish a two-peat state championship title. So how do they continue to demolish all the competition? “Everyone on the whole team feels that they are defenders,” added senior co-captain Danielle DeWaal. “And defense wins championships.” Riverton scored the first goal and the Hawks were taken out for a time-out right away. Junior Nancy Linford said, “They told us to stop playing scared and basically yelled at us.” The talk worked. The team stepped it up and began scoring right away. The juggernaut continued Saturday with four players scoring three goals apiece. Junior midfielder Kenzie Sieverts led the way with three goals and two assists for a game-high five points. Senior Taylor Dunn, an All-American player, worked the midfield while Alta continued to control the tempo of the game and most of the draw control. Senior Jess Staples said, “We played as a team and won as a team. No superstars. Ten people scored.” The team unity and hard work throughout the season allowed the girls to have fun every game. Alta had a great season and though they lose 5 seniors, the team will continue to be just as strong next season.
