Megan Kupres, a junior at Saugatuck High School, has many plans in her future. She already has it made up in her mind that she wants to attend Central Michigan University upon graduating from high school. She also has a dream of returning to her hometown; Austin, Texas, ten years down the road.Megan didn’t live in Austin very long, but she says, “I still feel connected with the city because I was born there and I have a longing to go back.” At the age of three years old she moved to the small town of Fennville, Michigan. Even though her memories of Austin are limited, pictures and home videos help her remember her suburban home. However, she stills remembers her best friend Kaitlyn who she called, “Kay Kay” before moving.I asked Megan why she was living in Austin in the first place and if her parents were from there or working there. She explained that both of her parents moved there for work and worked there 11 years prior to her birth. Then I asked why she moved to the small city of Fennville. She said, “We moved to Michigan to be closer to our outer family because that’s where they all lived.” She also stated that her parents regret the move because Austin was more gorgeous and it was easier to find a job because the economy is better there.I asked Megan what’s so special about Austin that makes her feel so connected and she said, “Austin is a gorgeous city aside from being a large one. It is full of life at all hours of the day – the city never sleeps.” Kupres also said, “Austin is lit up with colorful signs and live music is always played at about every bar throughout the night. A friend of Megan’s, Meghin Roach, said, “I can tell how much Megan misses Austin by the way Megan requested one of her teachers to take photos of her old home while attending a conference in Austin earlier this year.” Megan said, “I wanted to see how things have changed,” when describing her request.Megan happens to be a stand out on Saugatuck High School’s Varsity Softball team. Upon finding out that she had dreams of moving back to Texas, I asked her if she ever thought about trying to play at the University of Texas. She is unsure if her skills are division one capable. “It would be my dream to play for their team,” Megan remarked. She knows the University of Texas a great school aside the fact of sports, but her interests lie with CMU as previously stated. Megan plans to attend CMU for Integrated Public Relations and Environmental studies.Megan is unsure about what is going to happen from as many as five years from now to as many as thirty. She stated, “Whatever it may be, I will always plan to return to home sweet home.”
