Junior Varsity:
Tahoma’s JV Volleyball team had a wave of success this year, walking away with 14 wins and just one loss against Kentwood. However, Tahoma redeemed themselves and beat Kentwood out for second place at the Bonney Lake tournament.
The team was coached by Dan Potter, with captains Kayse Guest (sophomore) and Natalia Burdulis (freshman). Potter’s feelings toward the whole season were very positive! “I think the whole season was a huge success, with only one loss that we were able to end up beating them in the end anyways at the tournament. I also like the fact that everyone on the team was excelling at a high level, and not a huge difference between the top and the bottom, giving me a confidence in everyone.”
A large reason the team and coach were so successful was due to the bonds they created with each other over the season. Natalia said, “I think our season went well because we worked really well together and communication was good.” Many of the girls on the team didn’t know each other before the season started, but now they act like one big happy family.
Great job JV Tahoma Volleyball!
Varsity:
On Friday the 4th of November, Tahoma Varsity Volleyball headed to Kentwood for the WCD Tournament. Varsity’s current conference standings are six wins and two losses, then for overall standings they have eight wins and six losses. The girls are very excited to show off their skills at playoffs and make it to State! Ana May, a junior, says, “If we all work together I think we can do really well tomorrow and make it to State!” Now all there is to do is cheer on our athletes! Coach Dan Potter believes that they will be able to come out “firing all the way” and create some wins for Tahoma!
A recent big event for the entire team was our Senior Night! There was a great turnout and lots of support for our two seniors, Miranda Grieser and Amber Thompson. It was a bittersweet moment filled with fun times and smiles throughout the entire gymnasium. There’s one thing for sure, Tahoma loves the seniors! Miranda says the main thing she is going to miss the most is “coming to the gym playing with the same girls every day.” We will all miss these amazing athletes as they move on to college.
The 2011 Season of Tahoma Volleyball ended with some amazing success stories and great bonds between teammates and coaches alike. Varsity was coached by Sally Eager with captains Miranda Grieser (Senior) and Amber Thompson (Senior). The next volleyball season will definitely not disappoint! So don’t be afraid to tryout next year to play some volleyball and learn many skills that you can use later in life!
