College Writing
If you are driven by language, inspired by writing, or would simply like to avoid taking an English 101 in college than College Writing is the class for you.
College Writing is a course offered by Tahoma High School which allows one quarter at the University of Washington English 101 to be expanded into one semester of the same course in a high school setting. Completion of the class with a 75% or better earns five college credits. These credits can be transferred to almost any college and that is it, no more English 101.
This opportunity cuts the cost of the class by a third leaving the final cost of the course at a mere $285. This class is instructed by authorized University of Washington professors which are employed under the Tahoma School District. These teachers are Mrs. Alison and Mrs. Lindersmith.
Overview
This course starts off at a fairly laid back pace and then begins to pick up after the elements of college writing are taught. The class reviews the writing process and goes over some of the key elements involved in writing at the college level. Expectations are reviewed and the semester is laid out in a specific plan written out and given to the student. There are three sequences in the semester which include a variety of short papers and one long paper.
Short Paper: A fairly concise version of a topic being focused on in the sequence. These papers are 2-3 pages long.
Long Paper: A fully thought out version and final claim and conclusion to the sequence. This typically offers a new perspective on the topic being focused on and displays the claim which the writer must create. These papers are 5-7 pages long.
College Writing is a class which challenges the writer to portray his/her thoughts through both short and long papers. The skills taught in this class will carry through into college and offer the student the immediate advantage over his/her classmates. This course is an excellent opportunity to earn college credits at a fraction of the cost and learn how to write at the college level.
