Boy Scouts may not be the thing for most students but for Mitch Cross it’s different - it’s the thing he loves. At the young age of 13, Cross is becoming a leader and this is an endeavor he hopes will carryover for a lifetime.
Cross will soon be honored as an Eagle Scout on October 22.
“I want to be involved in Boy Scouts until I’m 18 at least,” he said.
But with his new found accomplishment, Cross said the oncoming and past challenges from transitioning from Boy Scout to Eagle Scout were a difficult process to undertake.
To be an Eagle Scout individuals have to do a project, and for his project he decided to build a compost pile and container bin for Sloan Creek Middle School. He said, however, that the task was bigger than he had expected.
“It was really hard to organize and to execute." But at the end of the project Cross said, “It felt really good once I finished, it was a feeling of accomplishment.”
He had worked on it for quite a while and was very happy once he finished. Cross has helped Sloan Creek go green, part of the campus-wide initiative to reduce, reuse or recycle.
Eagle and Boy Scouts for Cross is a way to become a leader, and to always help others. And until the age of 18, Cross plans to be an Eagle Scout as he believes he will always be willing to help others.
