My Book Adventures Continue!

Hey guys! For this blog, I decided to follow up my last one and talk about my latest literary pursuit. The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo was a great thriller, and the main character, Lisbeth, grew on me a lot. I can’t say much more without having to explain so I’ll move right along. Right now, I’ve picked upThe Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien. Some of you may have read it already because I know it’s covered in seventh grade English.  For those of you who haven’t heard of it, The Hobbit is a prequel (or what happened before) to The Lord of the Rings trilogy by the same author.

This story follows the hobbit Bilbo Baggins on a thrilling adventure. Along with the help of thirteen dwarves and the great wizard Gandalf, Bilbo ends up going on an unexpected journey that takes him far from his cozy home. With his friends, he must travel across the Misty Mountains to find the dragon Smaug, who has a treasure that rightfully belongs to the dwarves.  A lot has happened since Bilbo left the comfort of his hobbit hole, and he’s become bolder and more adventurous which is unusual for a hobbit.  He’s also proven his bravery not just to his friends, but to himself. I think that’s the most important thing that’s happened to Bilbo, well that and finding a certain ring.

I’m more than halfway through the book, and the adventures of Bilbo and his friends have been truly wonderful. The Hobbit isn’t boring, and with the same prose as those bedtime stories of old, it feels familiar. I started reading it partly because of my own curiosity, and partly because my mom kept insisting that I read it because she’s read it and likes it quite a bit. So far, so good. I have yet to be disappointed by The Hobbit, and it doesn’t hurt that there’s a movie being released later on this year based on the book. Let's hope all goes well for Bilbo and his friends. Until next time, dear readers!
