Each year the standard of appropriateness, attitude, and appearance lower significantly. As a universe, we are at fault. Naturally at a young age, we are exposed to the ways of the world, which influence us subconsciously. It becomes imbedded into our minds that we have to be a certain way to please society. Once something pleases the mind or eyes, it becomes hard to question its positive and negative effects. We begin to try molding ourselves like the socialites of the community, mentally and physically trying to rebuild everything inward and outward.
Teenagers in today’s world are among the easiest to influence. The celebrities, socialites, and models have contorted the definition of beauty to something almost unattainable to the general public. As we sit back and watch the flashy lives of the well-endowed on television, our mind is doing circles trying to figure out how we can mold into the “perfection”(by community standards) we had witnessed.
Watching Victoria’s Secret commercials with almost nude women, looking at large posters of Abercrombie models displaying their sexuality through touch and bare skin, there is something that has gone amiss. Twenty years ago, nudity of this degree would not receive a glance; it would be looked upon with disgrace and embarrassment. Some can defend this as the evolution of the world itself, which is almost insulting in its own right. We are giving off the conviction that being inappropriate and openly sexual is acceptable for children to base their morals on.
Children look up to people who stand in the spotlight; they want to emulate exactly what they see. Due to the lowering levels of social class and grace, children seem to be maturing in the most inappropriate way. They want to indulge in adult activities and way of life. Children are exposed to sexual material at a very young age; there is almost nothing a parent or guardian can do to protect thy innocence. Every child has to have a period of innocence, a ground zero to where their strongest morals to build firmly on. When the child grows up, this will definitely be a problem. If their maturity has no where to grow, they will sense that and have the understanding they know all they need to know. They will not yearn for more intelligence, they will be stuck.
The solution is easy to find. Nudity to such a degree should be thrown out, cursing and inappropriate behavior should be banned from all television/radio/internet sites. Such an “easy” fix, right? Wrong. The human population has weathered many act/dress/appropriate level changes; this is just a phase the people are going through. Virtually, this cannot be fixed by any means. Although it is wildly inappropriate and stealing the innocence from our youngest generation, certainly worse could happen.
For now, the best we can do is try to protect young eyes from violence and sexuality. Many would say this is a form of sheltering and over-protection. With maturity comes evil, the evils of knowing what one was never meant to know at a young age.
