With dark beats, fiery lyrics and a unique set of flows the Hoover, California rapper ScHoolboy Q definitely sets himself apart from the other rappers in his TDE family. To date he has released a pair of mixtapes, as well as two independent albums. His first officially released album Setbacks, was a big steeping stone in his career. With features from everyone in his Black Hippy crew ScHoolboy Q dances around a style that comes into full circle on his next album Habits & Contradictions.

Habits & Contradictions, released earlier this year brings every ingredient of ScHoolboy’s music together and creates a recipe that rivals many albums that have been released this year. On songs like “There He Go”, “Sexting”, “Oxy Music”, Q brings out the weirdo vibe that sounds like what Nicki Minaj can only dream of emulating. However, this isn’t the only mood that ScHoolboy can achieve he can also be socially conscience and appeal to a more real aspect part of life, with songs like “My Homie”, and “Blessed” the latter of which features TDE label-mate Kendrick Lamar. He also establishes a very jazzy vibe on “Grooveine, Pt. 1” featuring Curren$y and Dom Kennedy, as well as some standard brag, women, and weed rapping on tracks like “Hands on the WHeel”, and “Druggies With Hoes Again” featuring Ab-Soul. Overall this versatility allows Q to be a fresh force that sticks out from the other members of Black Hippy, which is groovy because every group needs that charismatic star.

            Over the past month, ScHoolboy Q and fellow Black Hippy member Ab-Soul wrapped up their first tour together, The Groovy Tour. They performed in venues all across the country and finished in the west, their hometown, where huge crowds of excited fans awaited their arrival. Even though The Groovy Tour has now come to a close, there are still many opportunities to see the TDE family perform live.
