Is it possible to be in an individual sport, but also work towards great success with a team of your peers? Well, when it comes to the Mattoon High School wrestling team the answer is, it’s more than just possible.

            The MHS wrestling season  is just getting started but they began with a bang by coming first in the Bethalto tournament on December 3^rd.  MHS wrestling Coach Chris Brown attributes this to their work ethic.

            “How we succeed and continue to succeed is due to our hard work, increased by senior leadership,” said Brown.

The wrestlers themselves also attribute there success to hard work and determination as well as the couch’s teachings.

“We keep amazing focus thanks to our coaches, who give us a foundation to go off and do what we do,” said MHS senior Clayton Dutton.

The wrestling team also doesn’t lack confidence in their abilities on the mat and what they can achieve.  

“I’m confident enough to tell everyone that the team could be destined for greatness because we are. Our team has every tool to be great,” said Brown.

The wrestlers are also ready for the challenges they will face this season on one of the most impactful sport there is.

“Our biggest weakness is people not showing up but once are team is all together in practice we can’t be beat ” said Dutton.

The start of a good season makes a steady foundation for the wrestling team.

“All I can say is I see nothing but good things and great expectations for our team” said Brown.
