Ravens acquire star receivers; fans excited for change
Advertising

The Baltimore Ravens recently added 2 new players to their roster to help improve depth at the wide receiver position.

Former Arizona Cardinals receiver Anquan Boldin agreed to a 4-year deal with the team, while former Patriot Donte Stallworth will be playing in his first NFL game since 2008 when he was charged with manslaughter. That was just the start of the good news, as receiver Derrick Mason agreed to rejoin the team for the fifth straight year on a two-year, 8 million dollar deal with $3.5 million guaranteed.

The Ravens look to be in good shape on offense for 2010, as long as third year quarterback Joe Flacco delivers. Over 2 seasons he has led the team to an overall 23-14 record, including an AFC championship appearance his rookie season and a playoff berth both years.

Boldin was a key asset to the Cardinals success in 2008 and 2009. He helped lead to the team to a Super Bowl appearance in 2008, and had 84 catches for 1,024 yards with four touchdowns in 2009. In 2007, Donte Stallworth helped the Patriots achieve the first ever 16-0 regular season, catching 46 passes for 697 yards and 3 touchdowns. Derrick Masons return may be the most exciting for the Ravens, though, as he was the teams number 1 receiver in 2009, leading the team with 73 receptions for 1,028 yards and seven touchdowns. Even Coach John Harbaugh was ecstatic. “This is outstanding, just great news for the Ravens. Our coaches are happy. Derrick's teammates are happy and you know Joe is smiling. We would have lost something special if Derrick had gone to another team. We have gotten better in the last couple of days.”

Now that the Ravens problems at wide receiver have been addressed, the team will look to fill the voids left by aging defensive backs and safeties.
