With its moving sand dunes, Great Lake-side beaches, and unique homemade roller coaster, this state is one that draws in many tourists every year.
“I remember when we were moving from California to Maryland and we had to pass through it. I thought there was nothing in Indiana; it was literally cornfield after cornfield,” said Stephanie Clements, who has since been to the state several times after marrying former Indiana citizen, Jared Clements.
At first it may appear that there isn’t much to Indiana, because it is mainly farmland, but if you do a little research you’ll find that Indiana is home of Mount Baldy; a moving sand dune located in Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. At 123 feet tall, it is one of the largest in all of North America.
John Ivers built the ‘Blue Flash’, as he named his rollercoaster, in 2006. The ten second ride contains a chain lift that pulls you up the side of his shed, a 360 degree corkscrew loop, and a helix before rolling back to the chain lift to start all over again. Although his intent was for it to be for his grandkids, he and his wife welcome many visitors. They only ask that you call ahead first.
