You’re hungry, it’s Friday night, and you want to go out with friends or family. The cozy warmth of Houlihans is calling your name, not to mention the satisfying food, dessert and drinks served. You only have 30 minutes for a lunch break? Don’t worry; this restaurant will give you a free lunch if they don’t serve it within 15 minutes. When you walk into Houlihans, you’re always greeted by at least one hostess with a warm, welcoming smile. Sitting in the most comfortable booth with your favorite people, the menus are filled with everything from Mexican food (Wild Mushroom Enchiladas, $8.99) (Smoked Chicken Enchiladas, $8.99) to healthy salads (Chicken Caesar, $3.99) (Vegetarian Asian Chop, $8.99) with Asian vegetables and Napa dressing. To satisfy your sweet tooth at the end of your meal, the desserts like the Candy Sundae ($6.99) with crushed Snickers and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup pieces is delicious. Unlike a lot of restaurants that use microwaves and pre-assemble food, Houlihans cooks everything from scratch. When I found this out on their website, I loved the restaurant even more. When I order my favorite meal with my best friend, we get, as an appetizer, the Tuscan Salad ($3.99) with tomatoes, rosemary white beans and balsamic field greens. I especially like the sweet dressing that goes with the salad. Then we share the Ultimate Nachos ($6.99) topped with cheese, sour cream and their secret ingredients to make it taste like heaven. For drinks, we both get the amazing Strawberry Lemonade ($1.99) and drink it to the soothing music. We end up having a whole meal under $20. Out with family on a Sunday afternoon, I love to get something a little more expensive. The three-course meal (starting at $11.95) is filled with choices of a soup or salad such as the Baked Potato Soup or Chicken Tortilla Soup ($4.99), then a second course like Vegetable Lasagna ($8.59) with three different kinds of cheeses. The meal is topped off with your choice of dessert such as Strawberry Cheesecake ($4.99) with a graham cracker nut crust. My favorite dessert is the deliriously tasty Crème Brulee ($4.99) with French custard topped with sugar. This restaurant is a great place for any occasion. With the cozy atmosphere and awesome music, I’ve never met anyone who doesn’t like Houlihans. People who love relaxing and filling but not pricey meals should try the restaurant. I rate this restaurant five stars for the excellent service and the way they prepare their food. The service is really nice and I always get smiles and welcomes. Houlihans is located 1508 S. Randall Rd. in the Algonquin Commons.
