The Milan Indian varsity football team met with competition on the road against the Lancers at Edinburgh High School on Friday, October 8.
The tribe's supremecy was quickly observed as they scored their first touchdown just 4:15 minutes into the contest with a quarterback Zach Lewis 1 yard carry, followed by a Scott Pennington PAT, for a 7-0 score.A 62 yard punt return across the Lancer goal line by Indian Scott Pennington at the 3:28 mark of quarter one gave the tribe a 13-0 lead where it remained heading into quarter two action. A mere five seconds into the second quarter, at 11:55, quarterback Lewis connected for a one yard pass to senior teammate Adam Ison (86). The TD was a ccompanied by the PAT off the foot of Pennington to set the score at 20-0.The Indians added two more touchdowns and a pair of extra points during the remainder of the second period. At 3:15 Pennington scurried for a 10 yard TD adding the PAT and at 2:05 Indian Cory Jewett (45) carried his five yard run for the TD with Pennington adding the PAT, giving Milan a 34-0 lead at the halftime break.Third quarter action at the 1:28 mark resulted in a Cory Strunk (23) touchdown, followed by a Pennington PAT to extend the tribe's lead to 41-0 heading into the final period of play.The Lancers managed to score a touchdown for six points at the 7:35 mark of the fourth and final period of regulation game time, off a completed 54 yard pass delivered by Quarterback Corey Burton to Wide Receiver Wade Teltoe.The final score of the game was Milan 41-6.Indian
The tribe had 21 first downs to the Lancers' 11. Rushing yardage for the tribe was 230 to 20 for the Lancers. Indian pass completion was 8/14 with Edinburgh going 9/29. Passing yardage for Milan was 119 to 122 by Edinburgh. Total plays were 53 Milan to 51 EHS.
The tribe's total offense was 349 yards to EHS 142. Milan was assessed 12 penalties for 100 yards while EHS had 5/31.Milan's time of possession was 26:56 to 21:04 by EHS.
