One of the major decisions a senior has to make is just that: deciding on a major.

“I knew I wanted to be a teacher since I was a little kid, but I didn’t know what teachers majored in,” senior Ali Caliendo said.

Some believe that this decision will be permanent for the rest of their college life, and then affect the rest of their lives. This is not true, many student can change majors or even double major in various fields.

Advanced Placement Psychology teacher Kevin Brown double majored in German Language and Culture and Political Science with an emphasis in International Relations and at University of California Santa Barbara.

College majors are not to be taken lightly though, constantly changing majors leads to more classes needed to graduate, which means more money spent on classes, materials and books.

Declaring a major is not a permanent commitment and does not define the future. Students also have the opportunity to enter college as an undeclared major, which mean a student has not decided which major to follow yet. Most undeclared majors tend to take general education classes until they find what they want to major in.

“Now I know that they major in Liberal Arts and that you need teaching credentials, now I have to decided where I want to start,” Caliendo said.
