The Senior year of a high school student has always been stressful, and a little frightening. It is the last step of childhood, and the first one into reality. But today, the real world is more intimidating than ever. With the technology now, it is hard to keep up with what will be next. Since we are the future generation, we are the ones that need to be most aware of the advancements we are due to face in the work force. Senior Seminar, a program at Rocky Hill high school, present experienced speakers of what to expect and how to handle the new life the schools senior students are about to face. This is why the book The World Is Flat was chosen as our senior seminar book.
Readily equipped with what is about to become of the world, this book gives students the advantage of the steps to be taken in preparation for future advancements. Thomas L. Friedman, the author, is clear in the fact the to be able to keep up with the jobs of our future, we need to be not only in with the game but ahead of it as well. According to him, advanced knowledge is the only way the human race will survive in succeeding in the future. From the creation of the Internet to the improvements of commercial trade, Friedman exemplifies just how fast the pace is of our changing world. The idea is that this evolution isn’t only never ending, but evolution is not about to get any easier either.
As seniors, it’s clear we can't be fully equipped, but this book will give us a sense of what to expect. The information should soften the impact of the shocking pace of the world’s evolution. It is critical that we are aware of any advantage given to us, no matter how small or soon we may think it is. The more advanced and ahead of the game we are from now to the future, the better chance we have at success.
