At last week’s Magic: The Gathering Club, there were no tournaments, drafts, or even casual playing of the game as expected.  There was simply the voting process every club must go through to pick the president, the vice-president, and the treasurer of the club.

With other clubs, most of these positions are ceremonial. The vice-president and treasurer tend not to do much in other clubs, and seem to be just a figurehead below the president and advisor who make the actual plans. Sometimes even the president is a “puppet” of the club advisor. For this new Magic: The Gathering Club, these roles will will be different.

When the meeting started, everyone voted for who they would want to be in each position based on the given nominations. In the end, the winners of each position are Ivy Wallace, President; Kit Wedding, Vice-President; and Tanner Smith, Treasurer.

All of these positions are fitting, since Ivy is one of the driving forces for the creation of the club; Kit has shown great leadership in other clubs around the school; and Tanner has been buying cards for years. If there were anyone who knew about Magic budgeting, it would be Tanner.

Since Kit has always been a good friend of mine, I often hang out and talk with him about Magic. We discussed ideas for the club and how he plans to put them in action. Kit is highly interested in “pack wars” a format he learned from our mutual friend Samuel Huffman. This format will be discussed more next week, but it is basically a very cheap way to play Magic without spending a lot of money.

Along with tournaments and playing huge multiplayer duels on Saturdays, Mr. Kiser, Ivy, and Kit have so far been the lifeblood of the club, making it the driving force of Western entertainment this year. I, as well as others, have been eager to hear about the Club's new developments and plans. Check in with the Westside Story to find out more.
