Sandusky being arrested. -
Former Pennsylvania State University football assistant coach, Jerry Sandusky, is facing over 50 counts of child sex abuse of at least 10 boys from 1994 to 2009. He denies any sexual abuse, but he does admit to taking a shower with a few of the alleged victims. Even so, Sandusky still does not believe he did anything wrong.
In 1977 Jerry Sandusky founded The Second Mile, a non-profit organization for underprivileged youth. Sandusky abused his authority with The Second Mile, by which he met all of the alleged victims through the charity.
Four days after Jerry Sandusky's arrest, Penn State fired coach Joe Paterno and President Graham Spanier on November 9th, who were accused of not reporting the suspected child abuse. School trustees fired Joe Paterno the same day he stated he would retire after the 2011 season. Just days after Paterno was fired, he was diagnosed with lung cancer. He died January 22nd at age 85.
Also, Vice President Gary Schultz and Athletic Director Tim Curley were accused of perjury and also not reporting the suspected child abuse. Gary Schultz retired and Tim Curley is currently on administrative leave.
Joe Paterno was scheduled to testify in the case against Gary Schultz and Tim Curley. Now his testimony is not admissible since his death and the case will have to go off of the report made by Mike McQueary, a former graduate assistant that claims he saw Jerry Sandusky sexually assaulting a young boy. McQueary also claims he reported what he witnessed to Joe Paterno, Gary Schultz, and Tim Curley.
As for the Jerry Sandusky case, Sandusky waived his right to a preliminary hearing that was scheduled for December 13th. The hearing was to see if there was enough evidence to go to trial, but since he waived this right the case will go straight to trial. Until the trial, Sandusky is on house arrest on $250,000 bail.
