At-a-glance

Don't give in to back to school blues

As the new semester begins and teachers begin piling on homework again it may seem like an insanely long time until the freedom of summer. But there are some points of light in the upcoming months. Here’s a quick look at some of the Salpointe and global events coming up.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Monday is our first much-deserved day off since school started again. So relax, hang out with friends, and catch up on much needed sleep.

The XXI Olympics. I’ll take the Winter Games over the Summer Games every time. Ice skaters doing crazy leaps in gaudy leotards, beefy Canadian men dominating at curling and Jamaican (I wish) bobsled teams. The Games begin on February 12 and conclude on the 28th. Also, how can you not watch something with a sasquatch as a mascot?

The 6th Season of Lost. The mystery will finally be revealed, all your questions answered, and Jack will shed some tears. The premiere of the final season of the hit TV show will air on February 2nd. It will have 18 intense episodes before a “highly anticipated and shocking finale.” (ABC Gives Viewers 48 More Original Episodes of the Hit Drama Lost, Culminating in an Exciting Series Conclusion)

Valentine’s Day. Sure, not everyone may look forward to this lovey-dovey holiday but even if you don’t have a special someone you can still have fun. Stay in with some friends or go somewhere you know that no PDA-loving couples will go. And if you do have a BF or GF, get them something special and from the heart.

With all these fun upcoming events, there is no reason to get the back-to-school blues! Take advantage of everything that is going on and live life to the fullest.
