On Friday, November 20, Casa's varsity football team traveled by bus to take on Manteca High School in the first of the Sac Joaquin Section playoff. By the end of the first quarter, Manteca was ahead 14 to Casa's three from Senior Alex Jungsten's 36 yard field goal. At half time, Casa had fallen behind 21-3, but gained a comeback during the third and fourth quarters. During Coach Norm Ryan's halftime speech, he stressed that defense needed to wrap up by getting more tackles and that the team needed to get the ball to offense. After Jungsten completed a 30 yard field goal, Senior Anthony Santiago scored a three yard touchdown, bringing the score up to 28-14. In the fourth quarter, Senior Scot Patalano caught a 32 yard pass from Senior Justin Tann, followed by a two yard touchdown by Tann and a seven yard touchdown by Santiago. With a final score of 35-28, the Rams won their first 2009 playoff game of the Division III Section.
"The end of the game was well executed," said Senior Dylan Rice. "There was great playing by both sides in the 4th quarter."
A week after the Manteca game, Casa's varsity football team moved on to Inderkum for the second playoff game. After the first quarter, Manteca had pulled ahead 13-0. Tann ran a touchdown during the second quarter, but Manteca exacted a revenge from last year, winning 60-6.
"Offense just couldn't move the ball and defense couldn't stop it," said Rice. "It was a major emotional letdown on our part because the game the week before was so crazy and we just left it all there."
