t, Junior Boys Varsity Soccer defender Marcial Cazares has been strapping on his boots and kicking the soccer ball around.
After school and on weekends, Cazares plays for Los Angeles’ Chivas USA Sub-16 team, a soccer youth development team for promising players of the same age. He finds it an honor to play for such a big club.
“He has the unique talent of being able to play well with both feet,” said his older brother Senior Varsity forward Manuel Cazares.
Cazares’s experience is different on the pitch than most players because he has the opportunity to play along side his brother Manuel Cazares.
“It’s great...I see it as a privilege,” said Marcial Cazares .
Cazares  seems to be following the steps of his uncle Demetrio Madero, a Chivas de Guadalajara legend who played from 1980-93, winning a championship in 1989, and even achieved two caps for the Mexican National Soccer team. Cazares has high expectations to live up to the family legacy.
Patrice Latyr Evra, the 28 year-old French international and Manchester United left back, is a world-renowned defender known for his ability of moving up as a play maker in the midfield and on the wings. He is Cazares’s inspiration as a fellow defender.
“I see France’s Patrice Evra as my idol not only because he is an outstanding player but because he came out of the slums of France,” said Cazares.
Cazares currently plays for the Birmingham Community Charter High School soccer team as a defender, but has only played once this season to which he placed the ball in the back of the net after attempting to cross the ball, only to see it slowly drift into the goal.
Cazares is currently being scouted by the United States National Soccer team, as well as received offers from the University of California, Santa Barbra Gauchos and the California State University, Northridge Matadors among other schools for a full-ride scholarship.
