Mr. Tom Dubay is the man most associated with being environmentally friendly at Trinity. He runs the Environmental Club, a group that collects bins of recycled paper every Wednesday afternoon.

After a short hiatus during which the group was inactive, the club returned to action at Trinity because of the motivation Dubay received from students to bring it back.

The Environmental Club isn’t the only effort being made to help the environment at Trinity.

The cafeteria recycles cans and bottles, and science teacher Mr. Dan Sturtzel collects batteries through the Boy Scouts of America.

Other acts of conservation definitely go on, with “green” alertness growing more every day.

“There are a lot of individual pieces going on,” Dubay said.

Science teacher Mr. Michael Budniak has been collecting old printer cartridges in an attempt to keep them out of landfills and preserve the environment since 2002.“I’m trying to support as much environmental stuff as I can,” Budniak said.

Outside of school-supported activities, the average Trinity student can do a great deal to save the trees.

The Website http://www.globalcool.org recommends unplugging idle chargers, buying local foods, insulating homes well, and stuffing freezers to use less cold air and energy.

Supporting efforts to save the environment doesn’t always mean going out of the way to do it. Benefit concerts are held all the time, among them Live Earth and the local Forecastle. Walks, fundraisers, Website petitions and other efforts to make society “green” are everywhere.
