It has been the same result despite some new faces for the girls’ basketball team this year. This year’s team has a healthy mix of three freshmen, two sophomores, two juniors and three seniors. As of press time, the Lady Viks were undefeated through seven games. According to Carli Rosenthal, junior, losing seven seniors has changed the dynamic of the team quite a bit from the last couple seasons. “We need to continue to develop better teamwork,” Rosenthal said. Coach Dale Poffenroth has led the girls’ team to the last four state championship games and he expects no less from this year’s team. “[I expect] that we play as hard as we can to get back to the state tournament and hopefully win again,” Poffenroth said. The girls are 3-0 in IEL play this year. Similar to years past, the Lady Viks have won by large margins against both league and non-league opponents. But they were also tested in a 53-41 comeback win at Lewis and Clark High School, Dec. 4. “Once we’re done with non-league schedule, we should be more than prepared for our league games,” Poffenroth said. The players are looking forward to their upcoming league games and, of course, Fight for the Fish, Jan. 8. “I’m excited to play Lake City,” Rosenthal said. “They beat us in the jamboree so we’ll be ready to kick some butt when we play them next.” The team’s next game is at Lewiston Dec. 18, followed by another away game against East Valley High School, Dec. 19.
