The Blue Zoo is back. Students of CHS have decided to bring back the loud and spirited cheering section. Its slogan, “We are the Blue Zoo, but this crowd is too rowdy to be kept in a cage,” describes the goal of the club.
“We basically want a lot of people to come to games and show their school spirit,” Tyler Anderl, senior and president of the Blue Zoo, said.
Anderl added that this spirit club attempts to bring the excitement of the game into the stands.
“Students are more involved in the school and sports when they show up and dress up according to the theme,” Anderl said.
So far some of themes for the basketball games have been an ugly day, beach day and Christmas day.
“My favorite day that everyone dressed up for was the beach day,” Nikki Kraft, junior, said. “It had the most participation and the outfits were sweet!”
During halftime the Blue Zoo has games for audience members to compete in to win prizes.
“We hope that the games will draw more of a crowd and help keep the team excited into the second half of the basketball game,” Anderl said.
According to Anderl, the Blue Zoo existed in the past when Eileen Beiber was the student council advisor. After Bieber retired the club disappeared.
When the club was reinstated, some funds were discovered left over from years past.
“We want to make Blue Zoo shirts with the money we have and are open to other ideas students have as well,” Jenna Guswiler, member of the Blue Zoo, said.
Students with suggestions to add to the Blue Zoo can put them in the student council box addressed to the Blue Zoo or Anderl.
