Tired and uninterested students is how I would of summed up last year’s Sophomore Retreat. The only thing the students were excited about were free pizza and a day off from school. Administrator Thomas Dugas and teacher Kathleen Carter plan to listen to teacher’s and student’s opinions and suggestions in order to make it a success this year.
“We have taken out the college fair component of the retreat this year and added a career interest component to give students some insight into what areas may interest them as possible future area of study at a college or university,” Dugas said.
Dugas and Carter are putting a new addition into the retreat. It is called the class meeting and will give the class advisors the rare chance of addressing the whole class at one time. Also, if students are attentive and willingly participate then there will be a chance to win coupons that you can redeem outside at the “FUN” session. That will help the students become more attentive and involved. This will cause a handful of kids who did not want to participate at first to cooperate.
Dugas also wants to help boost school spirit throughout our student body. He plans to give every student a sling bag with the lion paw print on the back.
Hopefully, this year’s retreat will provide better insight to our sophomores than it’s first year.
“It is important to know that we did listen to the students and in conjunction with teacher input to make modifications to improve the event from year to year,” Dugas said.
It is paramount that we have a list of suggestions that will help make every year in the future a successful one.
“The success of the retreat day is not based on one person, but rather do to the hard work, dedication and effort of everyone involved.”
