"There's nothing better in our failing economy than watching millionaires present each other golden statues," said the unforgettable Billy Chrystal as he began the Oscars. Tom Hanks presented the first two awards of the night and was followed by Jennifer Lopez presenting Cameron Diaz the Iron Lady with its first award of the night. Sandra Bullock gave me my first correct prediction of the night giving The Separation best foreign film. Academy winner Christian Bale presented Octavia Spencer with best supporting actress for playing Minnie in The Help. Cirque de Soleil entertained with a special performance, flying and dancing around the theatre as they have never done before. Ben Stiller and Emma Stone presented visual effects giving the highly-deserved Oscar to Hugo! Wrapping up the ceremony, Natalie Portman presented Jean Dujardin with best actor, and Colin Firth gave Meryl Streep an Oscar in her seventeenth nomination. Finally, The Artist took best picture over four other nominations. All in all, this was a great year for film, and I cannot wait for next year!
