The Obama administration’s plan for all schools to use digital textbooks within the next five years pushes schools across the country to adapt new technology into the classrooms. This digital learning trend is continuing outside of school as well. Students can learn through many applications on their phone, iPod, and iPad; for example, there is a flash card app where students can create flash cards on and use them to study.
Summit Christian Academy is working on embracing more technologies for the classroom. They are getting smart boards and new TVs for each classroom. Also, they recently installed Wi-Fi. Thanks to these technologies students can learn with visual assistance and can take effective notes, since they do not have to worry about not being able to read the teacher’s hand writing. However, the students’ opinions on school technologies were not very positive. Students’ satisfactions on their school technology are 5 out of 10 points on a recent survey. Many of the students said that the computers in the library and the computer labs are too slow. Students cannot finish their projects on time. Also, students gave 4.3 points on the frequency of teacher’s usage of technologies. Since most teachers only use their Smart Boards as a projector, students think it is wasting money. SCA has been working hard on improving technology use to give students more opportunities to learn, but it seems there are still many problems the school has to solve. Mrs. Seal, chairperson of the technology committee, said that the school technology committee has worked hard on researching. She added that she wants the students to be patience with the technology because improving technologies will take some time.
