“We've got a lot of quality this year; we’re fewer in numbers but what we have is very good,” said Coach Cindy Embleton.
“Some people have been doing really good,” said Dylon Henrie, a sophomore on the team.
“I think we’re doing really good. They’re training us really hard. Even though they work us hard, it feels good at meets when all your hard work pays off,” junior Monica Willard said.
“We already have a lot of kids who have already qualified for state which is very unusual. Usually we have to wait longer, but this year we’re better than we have been. We are much more talented this year than we have been in past years,” Coach Embleton stated.
Track had a meet on Tuesday April 17, with Uintah and Altamont. They had a meet on April 19, at Emery and Friday April 20, at Uintah.
High scores on April 20, for the girls 100 meter hurdles, is Alexia Cooper with a time of 19.77. in fourth place.
In boys 1600 meter, Keith Powell with a time of 4:48.38 in second place, and boys 300 meter hurdles, Trace Herrick with time of 45.21 in third.
Girls 800 meter, Janessa Ross with a time of 2:52.42 in fourth, and boys 800 meter, Jeff Brighton with a time of 2:08.72 just missing the first place time of 2:07.51 by one second.
In girls Discus, Jenice Winterton with a score of 8, second place, and in boys Shot Put, in fourth place, Ty Winegar with a 5, and in girls shot put, second place, Ceidra Mansfield with an 8.
In boys discus, second place, Allen Hamblin with an 8, and third place, Josh Serawop with a 6, then for boys javelin, second place Allen Hamblin with an 8, and third Carver Simkins with a 6.
Overall score for boys team was in third with 79. Overall score for Girls team was fifth with 43. Overall score for combined team is in fourth with 79.
On April 25, they went to Wasatch. On April 26, Union Track hosted Carbon, Emery, and Uintah for another home meet. On May 4-5, the team goes to BYU.
“I think we’ll do fairly well,” commented Dylon Henrie.
“It depends on how hard we work,” said Monica when asked how well she thought track would do in the future.
“I think we’re going to do really well,” said Coach Embleton.
“We’re on track to have personal records. All of our kids have been improving. As long as everybody keeps improving, we’ll do well,” coach Steve Hansen added.
