The Technology Bond that was recently passed may have some major complications relating to the money the school will receive. The Technology Bond is for funding school technology such as laptops, desktops, school buses, and other technological equipment.
A bond is an agreement to repay borrowed money with interest at certain intervals of time. Therefore a bond is like a loan, bonds provide the borrower with money to fund investments.
Bonds must be repaid at fixed intervals over a period of time. In order for the Technology Bond to support the school, bonds must be sold and not very many bonds have been sold, worrying school officials. Huntington Bank is looking over the bond and is a potential buyer. Other than Huntington bank, no other sales have been made.
"The impact of a late sale of the bonds, is that it will likely delay or slow
down our original plan for work to start at spring break. In addition, we won’t take possession of any new buses until summer now instead of April," Superintendent Mr. John Weaver said.
The Technology Bond consists of 3 sections of upgrades. The first group has to do with major infrastructure items. The next series of upgrades has to do with network file servers, and classroom technology such as desktops, speakers, and cameras. The third section of the bond consists of student computers. School laptops are not in good shape, because students have not taken care of the laptops the school had. Ideas such as new laptop carts, each student receiving their own laptop and class room sets of laptops have been discussed.
"The reformation of North Muskegon Public Schools’ technology will greatly benefit the entire populous. I have great expectations of my future alma mater," senior Austin Fuller said.
This bond will also be used to purchase two new school buses. The new school buses will feature slanted windows, two sets of red and yellow lights both in the front and back, a swing out stop sign, and reduced carbon emissions. The newer buses will still run on diesel fuel and seat 71 passengers.
