As many of you know spring is just around the corner, and that means it’s time to start getting ready for spring sports. Here at North Muskegon, we provide baseball, softball, girl’s tennis, girl’s soccer, track, and boy’s golf. Many players that will be participating in these sports have already been getting prepared for their upcoming season.
"To get ready for the upcoming season for baseball I am doing workouts with my coach, hitting in the batting cages, and throwing when I can. I am doing everything I can to prepare myself to get ready for the spring and help make my team one of the best in the conference," junior Zac McCamant said.
However, with snow still on the ground it is difficult for players and coaches to get fully prepared for their spring sports. Girl’s soccer, girl’s tennis, and boy’s golf are the more tricky sports to get ready for. This is due to the fact that those sports require facilities and different needs that are hard to come by for some people.
"It’s very hard to get ready for golf when there’s snow on the ground. You can’t really do much unless you go to indoor places where they have an indoor driving range or putting green. Our school does not have either of these so it makes thing harder for me and the rest of the golfers to get ready," junior Peter Host said.
Even with snow on the ground, it does not stop the athletes in preparing themselves for their spring sports. Many of the athletes have been working out, running, and/or doing specific drills that revolve around the sport that they plan on participating in.
"With the snow on the ground, it has made it hard for me to practice and get ready for soccer. However, Mr. Berends has been working with me and more players during the week doing workouts and specific drills to help us get in shape and get stronger for when practices actually start in the spring," sophomore Gabi Reihanian said.
