Next week there is special event in the high school basketball season. Both the varsity girls’ and the varsity boys’ basketball teams will play on the same night against the same opponent. This is a rare occurrence in the season scheduling because on normal circumstances the boys’ and girls’ teams do not play on the same night against the same opponents.
Next week on Tuesday, February 23, the girls’ and boys’ varsity basketball teams will play on the same day against the same opponent, the Western Michigan Christian Warriors. This is the only occasion this season when both the boys’ and girls’ teams play on the same night against the same opponent. The games will be played at Western Michigan Christian High School, the girl’s team will play at 5:30 p.m. and the boy’s team will play 7:00 p.m.
"I think it will bring in more fans to watch me ball," sophomore Spencer Krannitz said.
The idea of scheduling this event was originally discussed last spring between the girl’s varsity coach, Mr. Clark, and boy’s varsity coach, Mr. Cooke. There has also been talk of bringing this type of system into play next season on certain conference games, specifically on Friday games. The idea of this system is the hope that it will bring in more fans to support both the girls’ varsity and the boys’ varsity basketball teams.
