Boy’s soccer finished with a record of
2-14-2. They ended in last place in their conference.
Unfortunately
they did not qualify for the tournament. Coach Brian Munce was not happy with
the team’s record or coming in last place, but he was extremely proud of how
hard the players worked throughout the whole season. He is looking forward
to next season.
Girl’s soccer ended with a
record of 7-6-4. They made it to the
first round of the tournament. They were
seeded 11th. They faced the
6th seeded team, Dover-Sherbom.
Unfortunately they lost 2-0.
The Fairhaven High School girl’s volleyball
team had a successful season. They were
2nd in the conference (13-3) and went 15-6 overall. The girl’s made it to
tournament but unfortunately lost in the quarterfinals of the tournament. They were seeded 3rd in their
division.
The team will be missed greatly by their coach Karen Arsenault.
“They were always positive and drama-free. I
couldn't of asked for a greater group of girls to work with, “ said
Arsenault.
The boys cross country team finished the
season at the SCC meet at Washburn Park in Marion on a 3.1-mile course.
The freshman pack of FHS students held their own. The team couldn’t have finished without senior
Chris Grinnell (28:15) who rounded out the scoring for the Devils. The boys
ended their season with many personal best times to be proud of. We
are looking to have a girl’s team next year. See Mrs. Charette if interested.
The girl’s field hockey team had a
rebuilding year. There were a lot of younger players that had never played
varsity field hockey before. They ended the season with a 5-10-3
record. Sadly the team did not make the
tournament.
“I think overall the season was successful.
The younger girls tried really hard and had great senior mentors. Their
captains Jayne Guerra, Morgan O'Neale, and Jaime Mello never gave up on them
during the season and always encouraged them no matter what. I was proud of the
overall progress we made. The girls came very far from the beginning of the
season to the end,” said coach Julie Sunderland.
Boy’s football ended the season with an 8-3
overall record, and a 6-2 SCC record.
This was the best record FHS football has seen since 2000. The season ended with a non-conference game
against the Dartmouth Indians on Thanksgiving.
Since the team came in second place in their conference, they did not
make it to the playoffs.
“I think the football team this
year did exceptionally well with huge wins over Wareham and King Phillip but
under achieved against DR when we were playing for the Conference Title,” said
coach Scott Francis.
The boy’s golf team ended eighth out of nine
teams in the SCC division. In the SCC
tournament, the boys finished eighth as a team. With a score of seventy-nine, Brad Carvalho took home second
place in the Individual Competition.
Coach Kevin Reedy believed that season could have gone a little better,
but as it progressed, improvement was shown.
“As far as next year, I think we have
a good chance to finish much higher in the conference with everyone from the
team returning. We had a lot of freshman in the line-up who gained some
valuable experience and hopefully they can improve and get the team moving in
the right direction,” said Coach Reedy.
