Here it is, the grandest stage of all: Super Bowl XLVI.
At the beginning of the NFL season, 32 teams had an ultimate goal of winning the Super Bowl. Now, only two remain.
On Sunday, Feb. 5, at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, it will be the New England Patriots clashing with the New York Giants in Super Bowl XLVI.
The Watertown Splash polled nearly 100 people at Watertown Middle School on which team they thought would win. The results were lopsided: The Patriots won in a landslide, getting 84 percent of the votes (72 of 86).
In terms of students, the difference in voting by males (87 percent) and females (88 percent) was nonexistent.
The game will be a rematch of 2008’s Super Bowl XLII, when the Giants defeated the Patriots, 17-14.
At Watertown Middle School, any student who’s a football fan has had a great experience. Students will be tuning in to their fifth Patriots Super Bowl in 10 years, and hoping for a fourth win.
There is lots of talk in Watertown about the Patriots’ Rob Gronkowski. Some fans were worried about the record-setting tight end’s health.
Gronk has become a fan favorite in Watertown. Thursday was Jersey Day at Watertown Middle School, and among the most popular was Gronkowski’s No. 87.
“I think [Gronkowski] will come out on the field on Sunday,’’ said Frankie H.
“I’m not worried because he’s Gronk and he’s awesome.”
