SPLASH OF FLAVOR 2012
Pancakes
at The Knotty Pine
By ALEXIS C.
Watertown Splash staff reporter
Don’t you just love those small diners with really good food? Well, if you are passing through Auburndale, you will drive by a great one -- but if you blink, you might miss it!
It is called the Knotty Pine and it is a great breakfast and lunch place. It was founded in 1987 in a building that has been housing a restaurant for more than 70 years.
At small place on a corner Auburn and Lexington Streets, there is a diner with six or seven small tables and about a dozen seats at the counter. (There are 39 seats in all.)
The Knotty Pine is a great family business, owned by two brothers that are carrying on the family tradition. When you walk in, you will be greeted with lots of Boston sports talk and the smell of homemade breakfast.
Whenever I go there, I always get the pancakes. With homemade batter always made fresh, the pancakes are the right way to go!
They are buttery and fluffy, making you want seconds every time. One order has three pancakes served with maple syrup and the short stack has only two.
Next time you are in Auburndale, pay The Knotty Pine a visit.
