SPLASH OF FLAVOR 2012
Pesto Potato Dip
at Stellina Restaurant
By CLAIRE B.

On a warm summer evening, there is no better place to be than Stellina Restaurant in Watertown Square.
On the outdoor terrace, a fountain bubbles and splashes and the perfumed smell of fresh flowers fills the air. Diners sit in the sun or under a lattice with bunches of fat grapes hanging off of twisted vines. In this little Italian restaurant, the food is not the only thing to savor, but the atmosphere and experience as well.
Stellina’s Northern Italian food has been praised many times, but before customers order their food, they get a bread basket and Stellina’s pesto potato dip. The bread is often still warm from the oven and is perfectly complimented by the cool, rich, oily dip.
The bread baskets consist of several different types of bread. There is garlic foccacia, crisp toasted breadsticks, fluffy sourdough, and other sliced breads, the perfect size for dipping. The dip is made of mashed potatoes (although not as thick) with added pesto and a drizzle of olive oil on top.
This combination is the best way to start off a meal, and sets you up perfectly for the delectable entrees and desserts to come.
Stellina’s delicious, romantic atmosphere and food makes the restaurant a gem not to be missed.
