The Watertown Middle School girls’ hockey team won its first game of the season on Jan. 5 vs. Natick.
Slaps of the puck, up and down the ice, quick shifts, a few penalties, and a lot of whistles! Finally, all of the skaters’ hard work had paid off.
The final score was 5-3. It was a great game!
The WMS girls’ hockey team practices once a week at John A. Ryan Arena. Coach Jackie Dupree and Vinny Caporiccio lead the team in a strict, but fun, practices. The coaches are having just as much fun time as the players.
Some girls on the team have been playing for many years, while others have just started and are learning all the skills they need to play. But most of the kids have played with each other before, so they know their teammates’ strengths and weaknesses.
This year, the team is short on players, therefore, they players have had to rise to the occasion and work as hard as they can.
“Our team is pretty good, and I think we work really well together,’’ said Catherine Connors.
Olivia Lampasona agreed, and said, “I like the competition.”
Unfortunately, the Watertown Middle School team hasn’t won all of its games, but the players have learned a lot, and have been doing much better since the start of the season.
“Even though we don’t always win, its still fun to spend time with my team and play,” said Alessandra Solari.
