After
Obama’s statement about his support for gay marriage, his campaign has been
spending a lot of its efforts on contrasting his views on LGBT rights from Mitt
Romney’s.
Joe
Solomonese, president of the HRC, the biggest LGBT rights group in the country,
said, “"The federal marriage amendment is the ultimate deal breaker for
us. It is the enshrining of discrimination into the U.S. Constitution… It is
important to make sure every member of this community - Republicans in
particular - understand that distinction."
The
campaign is holding a nationwide event titled Obama Pride: LGBT Americans for
Obama, targeted specifically at reaching out to more conservative members of
the LGBT community.
This
is especially important for his campaign to make up for the losses in more
conservative democratic sphere, including “Reagan Democrats,” Blue Dogs, and
many Black Evangelical voters.
