Survey of 66 Greenwood Christian High School students on their plans for Spring Break. - Tommy Nguyen
When it comes to spring break, most residents of Greenwood, South Carolina would rather take a trip anywhere than stay in Greenwood. In terms of fun attractions to go enjoy your spring break at, Greenwood is lacking immensely.
But like salmon trying to swim up a stream, students at Greenwood Christian School (GCS) are choosing to go against the status quo.
Many students at Greenwood Christian are staying home for their spring break. Traditionally spring break is the week most families go on vacations, visit family, or visit prospective colleges.
In a survey that was taken of 75 high school students at GCS, 40 of those students were planning to stay in town. The remaining 35 participants were going on various kinds of trips in state, out of state, and out of the country.
“I plan to work for money for the Costa Rica mission trip,” said tenth grade survey participant, Savannah Reinhardt.
In previous years some of the students did leave the city for spring break, but this year something sparked a change.
“In previous years I’ve gone to Fripp Island and Myrtle Beach,” said Reinhardt.
“I usually either stay home and catch up on my sleep from the hectic school year or go to the beach,” said Christina Kotiadis, another tenth grade survey participant.
Of the 35 survey participants who said they were leaving town for spring break, 13 said they planned to vacation in South Carolina, 11 said they planned to vacation out of the state or country, 8 said they planned to visit family (family trip), and 3 said they were planning to visit colleges.
“I would hang out with friends, go to the lake, or go to the movies if I was in Greenwood during spring break,” said Reinhardt.
“If I were in Greenwood for spring break, I would probably go to the pool and tan all day or go to the movies and bowling. Hanging out with friends is always fun,” said Kotiadis.
When in Greenwood for spring break the question often arises “What should I do.”
Reinhardt suggests that if you’re in
Greenwood for spring break to find some friends to have some fun with.
“If I had to give someone advice on what to do during spring break in Greenwood, I would say to hang out with your friends and just enjoy your time off,” said Kotiadis.
With spring break coming up in April for the students at GCS their time to plan how they will spend their time in Greenwood or anywhere else they may be is quickly coming to an end how.
