Millennium High School’s swim team had the Brophy invitational this past weekend taking place at the Brophy pool.

The first race of the day was the girls 200 IM relay which included sophomores Courtney Duy and Sabrina Ballard, junior Alexia Peterson, and senior Jessica Wagner. They went 2:00:03 which is a best time by 10 seconds. The girls placed 14th in this event. Duy swam backstroke in the relay, Ballard was freestyle, Peterson did butterfly, and Wagner did breast stroke.

Junior Alexia Peterson also swam the 200 freestyle getting a time of 2:03:39. Peterson also swam the 500 freestyle. She went a 5:21:45 and her best time is a 5:20:00. Alexia Peterson was tied with an opponent the whole race; the girl out touched her. “It was okay, I wanted to go faster but I’m still happy with it,” says Peterson.

Sophomore Ryan O’connell also swam the 500 freestyle for the boys and went a time of 4:52:36. Going two seconds off his best time O’connell has to say “it felt slow but im still happy with how I swam.” The 500 race is twenty laps and the longest event swam in the high school swim season.

Sophomore Courtney Duy had a great day getting 2 more best times. In the 50 freestyle she went from a 26.05 to a 25.90. She also swam the 100 backstroke and went from a 1:02:80 to a 1:02:40. “I felt it went well. I went best time! A step closer to a sectional time. But there is a lot more room for improvement,” says Duy about her 100 backstroke.

Sophomore Aiden Olsen had the best drop in time out of everyone at the meet though. He swam the 200 freestyle and went a 2:04:64. That was his best time by five seconds. “It hurt so bad but I felt amazing when I saw how fast I went.”

Sophomore Kipp Scott and freshman Bryan Smok swam the 200 IM for the boys. Scott went a 2:17:91 getting 5th in his heat. Smok went a 2:16:73.

It was an extremely long, eleven hour day, and even though Millennium placed 23rd out of the 51 schools coach Robyn Ferro is pleased. “They did phenomenal and I’m very proud of how everyone swam,” says Ferro. The next meet will be October 6th at 3:30 at the Southwest Valley YMCA.
