The Law cheerleading squad finished sixth at the Southern Connecticut Conference competition, and this year they are back for more, despite losing captain Kelly M., captain Diana A,, Kylie D. and Deanna D.
The cheerleaders have hope for another spectacular year with the whole football season to prepare.
“Over the summer we had more productive practices,” said cheerleader Greta B.
Last year, the Law cheerleaders had hoped to be invited to the Capital One Bowl just as they did two years ago; unfortunately, they fell short with raising money in time.
The cheerleaders have set high expectations to do better than the last couple of years and hope to place in the top three at SCCs.
They have many returning cheerleaders who had a big impact on the SCC competition including Greta B., sophomore Aly S., senior Megan G., senior captain Heather G., and senior captain Ashley C.
“The team chemistry is that much better because most of the girls have cheered before and have a little bit expierence,” said Ashley C.
Joining the team are freshmen Letica G., Dana T., Allie D., Delaney S., and Krysta K.
“All of them contribute a lot to the team and they are all around great cheerleaders,” said Ashley C.
During the winter, the cheerleaders will also be able to work on there competition routine during the basketball games and doing their cheers and dances during halftime.
“The good thing about [the extra practices] is it gives us the upper hand because we can practice our routines during the games,” Greta B. said.
The cheerleaders practice every day leading up to Friday night where they do their second quarter routine. This also will get them heading in the right direction. The whole cheerleading squad is very excited and ready to go for the big, end of the year SCC competition.
To prep for that competition, and the rest of the season in general, the team went to the Southern Connecticut cheerleading camp this summer.
At the Southern camp, the team placed second in the cheer competition and first in the dance competition. They also walked away with the spirit award called the “top banana”.
