In the month of March, many of our
favorite male teachers entered the contest called “Mustache March”. WHS teacher,
Todd Klamm, organized the contest.
He came up with the idea in order to do something fun with
the male teachers.
“The contest is a fun way to get a new tradition started here
at Washington,” said Klamm.
With finals and the end of the year coming up, students need
a way to take their minds off of things and have a laugh throughout the day.
“Sometimes schools get caught up in the standard boring
traditions, but I’ve never heard of another school doing Mustache March,” Klamm
said.
Most of the teachers were enjoying the contest, but some of
them had to drop out due to “unfortunate” circumstances such as, their wives
were not to happy with new facial hair.
“My wife told me that if I didn’t shave it off she wouldn’t
kiss me anymore,” Ralph Kelley, collaborative teacher said.
Stuck between a rock and a hard place, he ultimately decided
that his wife’s affection was more important.
Miles Azzeh, English teacher, was one of the first to cut
his mustache, saying, “I had to take a family portrait. You know those
groupons, yeah we got a really good deal.”
His wife was also upset with the new look.
“Really though, my wife hated it,” Azzeh said.
There were other circumstances to teachers ending their
contest fun early.
“I had to, I was getting all sweaty and the sweat would get
in my mouth and it started to stink. You could taste it. It was awful,” Bryan
Salsgiver, business teacher said. “I couldn’t breathe, it was getting to big.”
Five award categories were established and the WHS staff
voted on the winners.
The “Burt Reynolds” award went to Ron Robson. He has the
biggest and fullest mustache.
The most ridiculous looking mustache went to Abe Deaver. He
also won the most disturbing.
The most fitting went to Dane Johnson, Michael Fredette, and
Todd Klamm because they can pull of having a mustache anytime. Fredette also won
the “Overall” award, because he looks good with a mustache and without a
mustache.

have won an award, cast your vote here.
