Year after year, the retreats at ILS are known to be unforgettable and exciting. Traditionally, the Peer Ministers of the school put on retreats for every grade.  Freshmen are normally introduced to NBC and sophomores to CBS. This year the class has decided to take a different approach and turn NBC and CBS into one retreat and call it Cornerstone.

Cornerstone took place on April 26 to the 27th; it started at 7:30 p.m. and ended at 1 p.m. the following day.

Upon arrival, the participants were encouraged to separate from their friends and meet new people.

The director of the retreat was junior Sisi Gardin who said she loved being director because it was amazing and she had never felt anything like it before. She felt as if it was an honor to be chosen to be director of the whole retreat. She also enjoyed working with her co-director Erik Balboa as well.

When Sisi was asked whether she thought putting the sophomores and freshmen together as a whole she said “I thought it was a wonderful idea to put sophomores and freshman together because everyone who went became one big family.”
For many people CornerStone allowed them to express themselves and allowed students to see each other in a whole different perspective.
Sophomore Daniella Vivar said “For the first time, my own life wasn’t the only thing that mattered, and it felt amazing.”
From the looks of it a lot of the students felt that way after attending CornerStone. It brought friends closer and people who were not even that close from the start. The students went to chapel and shared touching stories and then would go up stairs to individual classrooms with their own leaders and small groups and discuss their very own experiences. Some were tough to say but everyone knew just to listen and comfort their friend.
For one of the leaders of the small groups, Dani Ali said it was a great experience and he is happy that everyone became one big family and he feels closer to every single student that attended.
CornerStone will never be forgotten because it made such an impact on many of the students at ILS. It brought friends closer and formed new friendships. The CornerStone family from ILS is happy and pleased and can not wait until next year.
