The ILS Prom king, Anthony Barbera, with his queen, Cat Campos. - Alicia Campaneria
It all comes down to one night, prom night.
It has been seen in movies, but to actually live it is a completely
different experience. This is the night all high school students await.
It is the night where nothing else matters but the dress, the tux, the
date, and the friends.
For
the ladies, what makes their night is wearing the perfect dress. For the
guys, this is their night to prove that these four years have paid off, and
that they have transformed from boys to young men.
The
ILS Prom, on May 4th, was held at the Miami Beach Resort. At other
schools, prom sometimes is open to both juniors and seniors, but at La Salle,
prom is a privilege that only the seniors should have. It is not against
the rules, though, to take a junior to prom. Senior, Lorenzo de la Garza,
asked Junior, Guada Heinz, over an LTV broadcast.
Talking
about how he asked her, de la Garza describes it, “In the morning
announcements, I made a video and it said ‘Have you been asked to prom?’ and it
was me, Rene [Dago], Martin [Cuesta], and Joseph [Garcia]. And one of them says, ‘Are you ready for
prom?’ and I go like ‘Nah, man I don’t think I’m ready yet,’ and someone else
asked if I have a date, and I made a face that you would assume I was going to
say no and all of us were talking about who we’re going to take. And then everyone stops and asks who I’m
taking. And then I asked her. Right after the video ended, I walked into
her homeroom with flowers and asked her.
She said yes.”
“What
I’m looking forward to the most at prom is just having a good time and dancing
with my boys. I’m not expecting any
drama, like everyone is just going to be in the mood to have the time of their
lives,” says de la Garza. “When I leave
La Salle, I’m really gonna miss running it.”
In
a few years, looking back on all your experiences in high school, prom will
most likely be on your mind. The wonderful memories of ILS will never
escape you. At prom, the seniors will realize that this is the end of
their journey as teenagers, and the beginning of their journey as young men and
women that will one day create the future they desire.
Before
prom, senior Christian Garcia said “I expect prom to be like Winter Formal, but
a lot more fun.” After prom, he later
added, “It was actually really fun. The
starlit ballroom was amazing. If you
look up, there were a bunch of little, tiny lights and they call it the starlit
ballroom, because it looked like a sky full of stars. The theme was ‘Fly Me To the Moon’ and there
was a full moon out that night. It was
pretty awesome.”
Going
to La Salle, you experience things you may not experience if you were to go to
another school. ILS has Royal Idol, Don Bosco Day, Kidz Day, retreat
opportunities to be closer to God, fantastic teachers, and a unique and
unforgettable student body. It is purely
a one of a kind school. The memories
created within these four years will define your future.
