The sport with the most participants is now in season. Track and field is back. After last year’s district championship the girls are poised for another chance to show their talents. The boys have also been working hard, recruiting new students for new events.
This is junior Devin Cherry’s first year of track and field. He will be participating in the long jump, triple jump, hurdles, high jump, and relay. Last year he was a member of the boy’s lacrosse team but had to change sports due to a concussion suffered earlier this year.
“I was pretty upset I couldn’t play lax this year so I need to try something different. Track and Field will help me get in shape and increase my speed and jump ability,” Cherry said.
Mike Gould, a junior at CHS, is competing in his third season of track and field. “Being in shot put, discus, and javelin is really exciting. I would like to hit 45 feet in the shot put, 110 feet in discus, and 115 feet in javelin,” Gould said. This will be his first year throwing javelin.
Another participant in the triple jump is junior Tori Stevenson, who will also be involved with high jump and pole vault. Regarding the new season, Tori said, “It’s my second season and pole vaulting is new to me so it will be a bit of a challenge. I want our team to win the Mid-Penn Conference Championship and win Districts once again. I would love to qualify for districts and maybe even states for my own events.”
This year undoubtedly brings new faces to the team and plenty of talent. Come out and watch the Herd compete in their first meet on Tuesday March 27.
