Torture is Wrong - Google Images

Torture is not a good thing. Anyone would agree that it violates the Geneva Convention and that no man should be put through that barbaric technique of interrogation. That is why we should stick to our old methods of getting information from suspected terrorists instead of torturing them. There are other reasons too.
One reason would be that if the use of torture was used against terrorists, what would stop anyone from using it against other suspects. Suspects of crime, violence, and innocent suspects. The advantage of a complete ban on torture is that you do not have to decide whether it would be an appropriate time to use it or not, then you would not risk torturing the innocent. The second torture becomes legal in special circumstances, would be the second security officials and other people that would be in charge of this would be under more stress than they should and have more power than they should. Once it becomes legal it can become routine and trivial, leading to thoughts of why not murder? or rape? if I can torture.
What is our proudest accomplishment in this country? You could argue a lot of different accomplishments but one that has stood out and that has been very hard to obtain would be the United States Constitution; a series of guaranteed rights that no one can take away under this Government. Human rights and the Geneva Convention are included in this Constitution and have taken centuries to accomplish. When we break these principles and promises, who's to say that more will not be broken? To create acceptions in the simplest parts of the Constitution would cause problems and lead to more acceptions to be able to take place until our Constitution means nothing. This would be a very big problem for the citizens of the United States.
Our very way of life could potentially be threatened by this violation of rights. We cannot fight to defend all of our rights and then turn around to let this one be pushed aside just because it's convenient. The very goal of the extremists is to undo the basis of the Democratic law code and to destroy the Western way of life. We should not bend to the will of the other side and lower our standards, to do so would be to let them win. We should use methods of information gathering that have served us well in the past years and that we can rely on; methods that do not counter everything that we've been fighting for in this country. To not use torture would continue our valiant fight to true freedom and independence, that is a dream that should never be undermined no matter what the circumstances.
In short, we cannot abandon the very thing that makes us who we are as a country. Without that thing then there is was no point to our many years of torment so that we could become a free country. The best course of action would be to resume the course we have been on and not falter. Then, we will have truly won.
