St. Patrick’s Day

Kiss me I’m Irish! The Irish heritage holiday, Saint Patrick’s Day, is celebrated on March 17th to commemorate St. Patrick of Ireland. It is an official feast day observed by the Catholic Church, the Anglican Communion, Eastern Orthodox Church, and Lutheran Church. This feast day is celebrated by going to Church services and wearing green attire most often with shamrock logos. Lifting of Lenten restrictions and eating of corned beef and cabbage, or other Irish foods, are also special traditions during the day.
      Whether your blood is pure Irish or you have zero Irish descent, you should do something special to commemorate the day. Try adding some sort of green to daily wear to your outfit and try to add some green food dye to pancakes or waffles in the morning when you wake up. This shouldn’t be hard considering one of our school’s colors is green! See if you can find a restaurant that has a special of corned beef and cabbage so you experience the typical Irish dish. Most restaurants should have an Irish dish as a special that day. Restaurants like “The Hunt Club” usually have corned beef with cabbage, a Reuben dish, and different types of Irish coffees. If that all fails there is nothing wrong with getting a famous “Shamrock Shake” from McDonalds!

      If you are sitting home on St. Patrick’s Day throw in a good Irish movie. “Luck of the Irish”, “The Departed”, and “The Boondock Saints” are some of my St. Patrick’s Day favorites. Do one of those things to show your appreciation to St. Patrick on Saturday, March 17th and remember everyone is Irish on St. Patty’s day!
