He dribbles up the court, backs down his defender, eyes the hoop, turns around and puts up a shot that swishes through the net. Brahema Molubah, who walks around at 6’3”, plays basketball for the Pikesville Panthers and has played for both the Junior Varsity and Varsity team.

“I like playing basketball because it’s fun for me, and I’m very tall so I’m needed on the team,” Brahema said. “I like being competitive in any sport, I’ve been playing basketball for a long time, so that’s why I like it.”

Brahema dominates for the Junior Varsity team, scoring more than 15 points per game. He gets moved up to the Varsity team for some games, where he is used to defend taller opponents. Many schools covet players with potential that are good right now and can become great players; Brahema represents this type of player.

“I am a team player and I’m not someone that will hog the ball. All the players on our team are good and I think the ball should be spread between all of our players,” Brahema said.

Brahema transferred from Milford Mill this year and also starred on the Pikesville Varsity soccer team. Brahema represents the school in two sports as only a sophomore, not only showing his athletic prowess but also his determination.

Playing varsity is more of a challenge than playing JV because that is where juniors and seniors play, and that is where the best players are,” Brahema said. “ I can get used to varsity level now that way when I’m a junior and senior I can be better than the other kids who aren’t as used to it.”

Brahema, in soccer, scored two goals in both playoff games the Pikesville High School soccer team played in. He started on the varsity team even though he joined the team in mid-season. Now, he takes his athletic abilities on to the basketball court.

“I have always had great athleticism and because of my size I can be good at most sports,” Brahema said. I love basketball and I want to continue playing all the way through high school.”

Brahema can still keep up a strong G.P.A. (Grade Point average) while playing basketball and soccer. Brahema is excels both on the court and off proving that he can represent the school as a true student athlete.

“I just do my homework right as soon as I get home,” Brahema said. “I am able to do well in class and basketball because of hard work. Hard work is what I do because if I’m lazy then that won’t help me at all.”
