As the clubs of San Juan Hills High School set up for their annual Club Rush event, the phrase “Something for Everyone” is taken to a whole new level.

The ongoing list of over fifty-five clubs, which is nearly twice the amount from last year, gives every student at SJHHS a chance to meet new people with their same interests. Most all of the clubs from last year returned to make an impression on incoming members, while there were a numerous amount of new clubs eagerly awaiting to get their name and purpose out there for the school to see.

This year, students have taken an interest in the charity clubs at SJHHS more than any other. Half of all the offered clubs are charity based with an overwhelming number of people joining each. With colleges looking so deep into community service hours and extra-curricular activities, it’s no surprise that these clubs have become most favored amongst the student body. According to Sara Entezari, Club Commissioner, a few of the more popular ones are Habitat for Humanity, National Honors Society (NHS), Key Club, Interact, Make-A-Wish, Red Cross, and Pink Ribbon.

“I am a bit partial, but I really think Habitat for Humanity will have a lot of participation this year,” said Entezari, President of Habitat for Humanity.

Being partial or not, Habitat for Humanity did have a successful outcome with people lining up at the booth to sign up. This club was designed to encourage students to help their community by building houses for people on a low income. Members do have to be 16 in order to actually build the house, however anyone can join and show participation in other ways. This year the club is striving to get involved with Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, which will be a fabulous way to get more involvement and excitement.

NHS, as it is commonly referred to by the school, is one of the best clubs to be involved with in terms of amazing college applications. With the large amount of community service hours required every semester, in even only a year of participation you’re resume will be glowing. Although the advantages of being in the club are great, applying to get in is necessary and not everyone is always accepted.

Similar to NHS, Key Club and Interact Club also help students earn community service hours. However the process is much simpler with anyone being able to join. Key Club meets every Friday to talk about upcoming events such as car washes and volunteer work. Joining either one of these can be a great way to get in some community service hours.

Other than gaining hours, some other clubs held fundraisers and events for a specific cause. Make-A-Wish Club earns money for fatally sick children who get the chance to wish for one last thing. By raising money through this club, these students can soon grant a wish to one of these children, which will have a great impact on them and their families.

Pink Ribbon, as you can probably guess from the name, raises money for Breast Cancer Awareness. Additionally, the Red Cross Club works with the Red Cross Foundation to donate blood to people in need while also teaching members about First Aid and other safety procedures.

Although Charity Clubs have taken majority at Club Rush, there were many other clubs that people have taken an interest in as well. Getting involved in a club can be an excellent way to do something you enjoy, while also meeting new people and helping the community.
