Lately Technology has been evolving
rapidly going from button controlled to touch screen to now voice
activated. These changes are amazing
advancements in technology and make the previous eras of technology look crude
and ineffective. But how are these changes affecting Children and their
friendships. Website’s like Facebook and Gmail are all daily parts of almost
everyone’s lives. Conversations between
people are now done more over the internet than they are in person. Ask almost
anyone what does “OMG” or “BFF” stand for they will know it. Last week, the Pew Research Center found that half of American teenagers — defined in the
study as ages 12 through 17 — send 50 or more text messages a day and that one third send more than 100 a day. Are you one
of those teenagers? How often do you text? How about you try going for a week
without a phone. Look at how much time
you suddenly have available to you. Only use computers for typing up essay,
suddenly you have loads of time. Time to
go outside and actually find out what your friends look like in real life.
Technology also affects a student’s education for the
better and the worse. To begin with technology allows student’s a convenient
way to type up paragraphs and or documents with ease and also print them far
more legibly. As well as providing a simple form of editing that prevents them
from being marked down grammatically. As well as allowing the student to do
more complex tasks with ease like creating PowerPoint presentations. Technology
also encourages collaboration among students. While at school teachers find
that there are students in their class that are so gifted with technology that
they can actually help other students to complete complex tasks. So Technology works both ways it serves as
useful resource and a distraction.
