There is nothing I hate more than getting highly formulated music which should have a recycle symbol on album right above the promotion label. For me it has been hard finding new music that is creative and unique, not because the music industry has been at a decline since the beginning of the decade but because bands are not allowing themselves to be different and stand apart. After hearing identical lyrics and the same instrument breakdowns from 15 different bands I get aggravated and the songs get old and annoying.
Record sells have declined since 1999 when there was huge layoffs in the record label businesses around the world. This caused most labels to be forced to shut down and many to try and refurbish their businesses from the bottom up. I believe that the layoffs have been caused because of the music itself. The bands that choose not to look for new and creative ways to play and make their music have caused the music industry to fall apart.
According to the "The New York Times", by 2013 there will be a loss of over five billion in revenues since the downfall of the music industry in 1999.
The lack of importance on a bands album as a whole has been treated insignificant while the industries choose to "push that one catchy song as hard as possible" as the AP or "Alternative Press" magazine calls it. The "catchy" yet cliché song reigns over the whole bands album which doesn't help the revenue for the music industry and makes the record sells as low as they have ever been.
While running the same song over and over gets good publicity, it also starts to take a downturn because after it plays so many times listeners get tired and want something else. This leads to less album sells and sometimes a bad reputation of the band because there one "catchy song" gets old.
New upcoming bands are now emulating the cliché music instead of paving their own paths. They have lost sight in why they are actually playing music and why music exists in the first place.
There is still new and amazing music out there but it is hidden by the same music that is getting shoved into our ears. Musicians need to restore people's faith in music and prove through their own unique sound they are playing is solely for self expression.
